Property & Trades Domain Names

The property and trades sector is fiercely competitive at a local level. Domain extensions like .property, .house, .builders, .construction, and .plumbing give your business a clear identity that cuts through the noise. When a homeowner searches for a local tradesperson, a descriptive domain name makes you instantly recognisable and memorable.

From estate agents and letting agencies to builders, plumbers, electricians, and garden designers, this category covers the full spectrum of property-related businesses. A domain like yourname.builders or yourtown.property is far more descriptive than a generic alternative, and it signals professionalism and specialism to potential customers.

At 365i, we support tradespeople and property businesses with affordable domain registration, reliable DNS, and free email forwarding. Whether you are an independent plumber wanting a professional web presence or an estate agency building a portfolio of property websites, our domains provide the right foundation for your online success.

Choosing well

Choosing between .property, .estate, .homes, .builders and .plumbing

Two different buyers land on this page. One sells houses, and puts an address on a For Sale board outside somebody else's home. The other fixes them, and puts it on a van door and a quote paid up front. Estate and letting agents in England also sit inside a regulated trade, required to belong to The Property Ombudsman or the Property Redress Scheme, with a fine of up to £5,000 for those who do not. An unfamiliar address costs more here than elsewhere.

For the trades the descriptive words earn their keep: the extension names the job. .plumbing, .cleaning, .repair and .kitchen all read as something a homeowner wants doing. The trap is number. .builders and .contractors are plural, .construction and .build are singular, and somebody hearing the address on the phone writes down whichever their ear expected. Say the whole thing aloud to a person who has never seen it written, before it goes near a signwriter.

For agents the choice is narrower than the list looks. .estate carries two other British meanings, a housing estate and a car, so the name in front has to carry the sense alone. .haus, .immo, .immobilien, .maison and .casa are German, French, Spanish and Italian; .condos is North American and .villas reads as a holiday let abroad. Pick one for a firm selling in Leicestershire and you are asking a vendor to translate before they trust you.

When the .co.uk is still the real address

More often here than in most categories, because this work is bought within a few miles of the van. Google treats a country-code extension as a strong signal that a site is meant for one country, and everything on this page is generic, with no geographic signal. A .co.uk is also under a tenner against £109 for .property. Put the site and the paperwork there, then add the descriptive one for the board and the van.

What we would suggest

  • An estate agency covering one town

    .property

It is the one word here a vendor reads as 'this firm sells houses' with no second meaning attached. At £109 it is the dearest extension in the category, so it earns that back on boards, window cards and brochures rather than in an email footer.

  • A letting agency listing available flats

    .rentals

The plural describes the stock rather than the act, which is what a page full of listings needs. .rent is the verb and reads as an instruction about one property, so it suits a single building or a campaign address better than a portfolio.

  • A sole trader plumber with one van

    .plumbing

Plumbing has no plural form to get wrong and only one spelling, so it survives being read out on a bad line and copied off a moving vehicle. That is worth more to a one-van business than any of the near-synonyms in this category.

  • A building firm bidding for commercial work

    .construction

It matches the word used on planning documents, tender packs and procurement forms, so the address reads the same way the firm is described in writing everywhere else. .builders names the trade; .construction names the industry a buyer is filing you under.

  • A renewables installer taking domestic enquiries

    .solar

It names the thing a homeowner actually searches for by name, rather than the sector. .energy sounds like a supplier or a consultancy, costs half as much again, and does nothing to tell somebody with a south-facing roof that you fit panels.

  • A landlord letting a few flats directly

    .homes

It reads as residential without implying you are an agency, which matters if you are not one and have no redress scheme membership to point at. XYZ removed the professional restrictions on .homes in June 2021, and at £18 it is the cheapest property word here that is not a foreign one.

Mistakes we see with property domains

Worth reading before you register, because most of these cost money to undo.

  1. Putting the trade extension on regulated paperwork. Terms of business, a sole agency agreement, a redress scheme entry and a client money protection listing are all read by somebody who is already checking you out. An address they have never seen slows that check down at the worst moment.

Do this insteadKeep the .co.uk as the address on contracts, letterheads and every scheme listing, and make sure it matches the name registered at Companies House. Use yourfirm.property or yourfirm.builders for the board, the van and the leaflet drop.

  2. Ignoring the singular and plural split. This category is full of near-identical pairs: .builders against .build, .property against .properties, .rent against .rentals, .house against .homes. A customer who heard the address rather than read it types the other one and gets nothing, or gets a competitor.

Do this insteadSay the full address out loud to somebody who has not seen it written and watch what they type. If they get it wrong, either register the other form as well or keep printed material on the .co.uk, where nobody has to guess.

  3. Reading the first-year price as the price forever. .property is around eleven times a .co.uk, .energy nearly nine and .furniture over eight, and a domain is a bill every year for as long as the business trades. Short or obvious names are also often classed as premium by the registry, and a premium price repeats at every renewal.

Do this insteadCheck the renewal figure at checkout, not just the registration figure, then ask whether the word is worth that annually for the next decade. If the answer is no, the .co.uk does the same job for £9.99 with free transfers.

  4. Sending bank details from the descriptive domain. Trades and agency work both involve money moving before anything is finished: a deposit for materials, a holding deposit on a let, a completion payment. The email carrying account numbers is exactly where a nervous customer looks twice at the address.

Do this insteadSend invoices and payment details from an address on the .co.uk that matches your trading name, your Google Business Profile and your van. Every domain here includes free email forwarding and a 10GB mailbox, so the second name can still take enquiries without carrying the money.

  5. Expecting the word in the extension to do your local SEO. A .plumbing address tells Google nothing about which towns you cover, and none of these extensions carries a geographic signal, because they are all generic rather than country-code.

Do this insteadDo the local work properly: a Google Business Profile with real service areas, a page for each town you really cover, and reviews. Take the .co.uk for the country signal and treat the trade extension as branding, which is the job it is actually good at.

  6. Registering yourname.builders and leaving yourname.co.uk on the shelf. Lead-generation directories buy trade names cheaply, and the version British customers type from habit is the one you did not buy.

Do this insteadRegister the .co.uk in the same order and point it at the same site. Pick one address as the canonical one so only that version gets indexed, and let the other redirect. .uk transfers are near instant here because they are an IPS tag change, so moving one in later is quick if it is already yours.

FAQ

Property Domains FAQ

Absolutely. A sole trader plumber with a .plumbing domain or an independent builder with a .builders domain immediately stands out from competitors with generic web addresses. These domains convey specialism and professionalism, which helps win customer trust.

The .property extension is excellent for estate agents, letting agents, and property management companies. It clearly communicates your business focus and can be used alongside location-based subdomains or directory sites.

Trades domains work well with local SEO strategies. Combined with a Google Business Profile, local content, and customer reviews, a descriptive domain like yourname.builders helps search engines understand your business and match you with relevant local searches.

Yes. Extensions like .property, .homes, .house, .rent, and .rentals are well-suited for property listing websites, whether you are an agency with your own listings or a platform aggregating properties from multiple agents.

Yes. The property category includes .solar and .energy extensions, which are ideal for renewable energy companies, solar panel installers, and energy consultants. These descriptive extensions help green energy businesses stand out in a growing market.

The singular describes what your business does, the plural describes what you are listing. .property suits an agency, a developer or a management company whose address sits on boards and letterheads; .properties reads better on a site that is mostly a searchable list of stock. Price is the other half of the answer. .property is £109 a year against £33.99 for .properties, so the singular has to be earning something in print to justify roughly three times the annual cost, every year, for as long as you trade.

Anyone can. .homes launched with restrictions aimed at property professionals, and XYZ, the registry, removed them in June 2021, saying that no matter who you are, pro or just-for-show, you can register one. Nothing else in this category asks for a licence, a trade body membership or a UK address either: the Identity Digital extensions that make up most of the list publish only one extra eligibility form across their entire portfolio, and it applies to .ltd. So the risk with these names is commercial, not eligibility. Nobody will refuse your order or suspend the domain later.

Rarely, because real estate is American English and your vendors say estate agent. IANA lists the .realestate registry site as get.realtor, which redirects to a page badged as brought to you by the National Association of REALTORS, the US trade body. That is a fine signal in Ohio and a confusing one in Northamptonshire, where nobody is a Realtor. At £68 a year it also costs twice what .estate or .properties do. It makes sense for a UK firm marketing British property to American buyers, and very little sense otherwise.
