How .realestate differs from the restricted .realtor
There are two extensions in this family and only one of them is open. A .realtor address is available exclusively to members, firms and boards of the National Association of REALTORS and the Canadian Real Estate Association, and it is licensed rather than sold, so the licence and the membership travel together. .realestate is the same organisation's answer for everyone else. Its own FAQ answers who can register one in a single word: anyone.
IANA records the registry operator as dotRealEstate LLC of Cleveland, Ohio, working alongside NAR and Second Generation, and lists Nominet in Oxford as the technical contact, the same organisation that runs .uk. It was delegated in April 2016, which makes it one of the later property extensions to arrive.
Two things to check before ordering. Many of the short, single-word, city and neighbourhood names are registry premiums carrying annual fees several times the standard price, so the name you have in mind may not be the figure on this page. And it is the second most expensive property extension on our list, behind only .property. That is a decision you renew every year, not once.

- You are a commercial agent, a lettings platform or a property technology business, where the phrase estate agent does not quite fit what you do.
- You sell to a North American or international audience that says real estate rather than property.
Look elsewhere if
- You are a UK high street agency. British buyers search for property, and a .co.uk carries a UK signal in Google that this extension does not.
- Ten letters after the dot makes a long address on a For Sale board, on a van and in a footer, and long addresses get mistyped.
- The short names most people want are registry premiums with much higher annual fees, so the price on this page may not be the price you pay.

.realestate vs .co.uk: which should you register?
For a UK agency this is not a close call. A .co.uk is the extension British buyers assume, it is the cheapest thing we sell, and Google reads it as a UK site, which matters enormously for an agency whose customers are all within about fifteen miles. A .realestate does none of that and costs several times as much every year.
Where .realestate becomes interesting is when the .co.uk you wanted has gone, or when you are deliberately not a high street agency: an international portal, a commercial specialist, a property technology brand. In that case, buy it as the memorable brand address and keep a .co.uk pointed at the same site for the local search work.

A .realestate has no membership requirement at all and the registry says plainly that anyone can register one. Both come out of the same organisation, so the pairing is deliberate: one badges the profession, the other is open to the wider industry.
Yes. The registry states that a .realestate domain is open to anyone, with none of the naming conventions that apply to .realtor, and there is no eligibility criterion in the ICANN registry agreement either. You do not need to be an agent, a broker or a member of anything. The one practical gate is money rather than status: a large number of the desirable short names are held back as registry premiums with substantially higher annual fees.
For most UK agents, no. British buyers search for property rather than real estate, the phrase is American in register, and a .co.uk gives you a geographic signal in Google plus the lowest annual cost of anything on our price list. The exception is an agency handling overseas sales, commercial work or investor clients, where the international phrasing is the right one. Even then, hold the .co.uk as well and point one at the other.
