The .builders domain and the plural problem
Test the plural first. Smith Builders reads perfectly as a company name, so smith.builders reads perfectly too. One person trading as a builder gets a slightly odd result, because the address implies a firm with several people in it and the customer meets one van. Say your own trading name in front of it out loud before you spend anything.
The second thing worth knowing is that nothing in this trade is licensed the way customers often assume. .builders is a domestic word. Householders say builder, they search for builders, and the plural reads like a family firm doing extensions and renovations. .contractors is a commercial word. It belongs to tender documents, subcontract packages and supply chains, and it reads as a business that works for other businesses rather than for homeowners.
Pick by the last five enquiries you took. If they came from people with a kitchen wall to move, .builders speaks their language. If they came from a procurement email with a reference number in the subject line, .contractors does.
