What is a .rent domain?
The .rent domain connects everyone in the rental market. Letting agents, landlords listing properties, equipment hire companies, and car rental firms all benefit from a four-letter domain that describes their business model in a single word. When someone searches for something to rent, this domain leaves zero doubt about what you offer.
Who should register .rent?
Letting agents, landlords, car rental companies, equipment hire firms, and holiday rental platforms.

The .rent premium list, and what standard pricing covers
Type the word you actually want in front of .rent and there is a fair chance you will hit the premium list rather than the price shown on this page. The registry publishes that list openly, which is more than most do, and it is worth opening before you get attached to a name. It runs to over 3,000 entries across six tiers. LONDON, Birmingham and Edinburgh are on it. So are flat, flats, office, holiday, home, homes, house and uk.
The part buyers miss sits in the file's own header: a tier applies to the registration, the renewal and the transfer. A premium name is not a one-off charge you swallow at launch. It is the price you pay every year, and the price a buyer inherits if you ever sell the domain on.
What is left after the premium list is still useful, because the word is a verb as well as a noun. An address ending in .rent reads as an instruction, which is why it suits a listings page, a booking flow or a campaign landing page better than it suits a company homepage. Letting agents, plant hire firms, car hire operators and holiday let owners all fit.
The registry side is plain. XYZ.COM LLC holds the extension, CentralNic in London runs the back end, and IANA recorded the delegation on 2 April 2015 against an ICANN agreement signed on 4 December 2014. That agreement is Base and Non-Sponsored: nothing about you is checked, and the registry describes the namespace as open.
Is .rent the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.rent works well if
- You are building a listings or booking page and want the address to read as an instruction rather than a company name, which is what a verb ending buys you.
- You hire out something other than property. Vans, tools, marquees, plant and costumes all sit under the same word without stretching it.
- Your brand name is already strong, so putting it in front of .rent turns the domain into a call to action rather than a second attempt at branding.
- You are running a campaign that needs a short, spoken-out-loud address for radio, a hoarding or a vehicle livery.
Look elsewhere if
- The name you want is probably on the registry's premium list, and a premium tier is charged on renewal and transfer as well as registration, for as long as you hold it.
- It costs around six times a .co.uk at the standard rate, before any premium applies, and lettings enquiries come overwhelmingly from local searches a .co.uk serves better.
- Said aloud, it collides with .rentals. If your customers hear the address on the phone, expect to spell it every time.
One letting agency, one patch, enquiries from local search? A .co.uk does more for that and costs a fraction. See .co.uk pricing.
.rent vs .rentals: which should you register?
Singular and plural here are two different companies. .rent belongs to XYZ.COM LLC and reached the root zone on 2 April 2015. .rentals belongs to Binky Moon and got there on 30 January 2014. Owning one gives you no claim on the other, and the standard price of .rent is roughly half as much again.
.rent works as a verb. It asks the visitor to do something, which is why it sits well on a landing page or a single strong call to action. .rentals works as a noun. It promises a set of things available, which is what a directory, a portfolio or a hire catalogue wants a visitor to expect before the page loads.
Spoken aloud they are close enough to be a nuisance. If most of your enquiries arrive by phone, pick one, and be ready to spell it.

.rent domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .rent domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyBecause it is on the registry premium list. XYZ.COM LLC publishes that list as a downloadable file from nic.rent, and it carries more than 3,000 names in six pricing tiers, including major city names and everyday words like flat, office and home. The list states plainly that a tier applies to registration, renewal and transfer. Check the name against it before you build anything around it, and price the renewal, not the first year.
Yes. There is no landlord test, no letting agency requirement and no property ownership check. The ICANN registry agreement is Base and Non-Sponsored, so nothing about you is verified at the point of order. That is why the extension turns up on vehicle hire, plant hire, marquee hire and equipment sites as often as on property ones. The word describes the transaction, not the sector.
Take .rentals if the site opens on a list of available properties, and .rent if the address is being used as a call to action, for example on a campaign page or a QR code. They are run by different registries, so holding one gives you no rights over the other, and .rent costs roughly half as much again at standard pricing. Neither will help you rank; lettings searches are local and the work sits elsewhere.
No. Free privacy applies to .uk extensions only, where Nominet's consent-based rules keep a UK individual registrant's name and address out of the public record by default. On .rent, as on every other extension outside .uk, privacy is a paid add-on. If you are registering as a private landlord rather than a limited company, decide that before you order rather than after your address is published.
