What is a .rodeo domain?

The .rodeo domain is niche by design, and that's its strength. It serves rodeo event organisers, Western riding schools, country lifestyle brands, and ranch tourism businesses. While it's more popular in North America, UK businesses in the Western riding community and country show circuit find it equally useful.

Why .rodeo is cheap, open and rarely right

We will be blunt about this one. .rodeo is among the cheapest extensions on our list, it is completely open, and for the overwhelming majority of British businesses it is the wrong address. Rodeo is a North American word for a North American sport. Outside Western riding, ranch tourism and the country show circuit, it communicates nothing to a UK customer except that the site is probably American.

Registry Services LLC, trading as GoDaddy Registry, operates it and confirms that anyone can register one globally on a first-come, first-served basis. It was delegated in February 2014, on the same day as .fishing.

Where it does fit, it fits well, because so little is taken. A Western riding school, a rodeo event, a bull riding club or a ranch holiday business can still get its own name here without hyphens or padding. There is a second reading too: rodeo turns up loosely in English for a scramble or an event, and Rodeo Drive lends it a Los Angeles association that some retail brands enjoy. Both are branding decisions, not search ones.

The honest answer

Is .rodeo the right choice for you?

We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.

.rodeo works well if

  • You organise rodeo events, run a Western riding school, or sell tack, boots and clothing to that community.
  • You operate ranch or trail riding holidays and want an address that sets the tone before the page has loaded.
  • You want a short, distinctive name for a project where rodeo is doing the branding rather than the describing.

Look elsewhere if

  • Your customers are British and do not use the word. Most will assume the site is American, and a few will assume the address is a typo.
  • You need the name to still make sense in ten years. A narrow word ties the brand to one activity permanently, however the business changes.
  • You want UK search visibility. A generic extension carries no country signal, so a .co.uk will do far more for the same effort.

Selling riding lessons or equestrian kit to British customers? A .co.uk is the extension they expect to see. See .co.uk pricing.

Head to head

.rodeo vs .com: which should you register?

A .com is what people type when they cannot remember what you told them, and it is the safest address any business can hold. A .rodeo is not competing with that. It is competing with the padded .com you would have to settle for, because the clean two-word .com in this space went long ago.

The sensible position for a Western riding business is both: the .com as the reliable address on paperwork and email, and the .rodeo as the short one on the poster and the trailer, redirecting to the same site. Neither is expensive, and holding both removes the whole question of which one somebody half-remembers.

FAQ

.rodeo domain questions, answered

What people ask us before registering a .rodeo domain.

Can't find what you're looking for?

Ask us directly

Anyone, anywhere, first come first served, which is the registry's own published position. No association membership, no evidence of involvement in the sport, no country requirement. That openness is normal for extensions in this family. It also means the address by itself tells a visitor nothing about whether you are a real event organiser, so the site behind it has to carry the credibility.

For most, no. Rodeo is not part of everyday British vocabulary and a UK customer reading the address will assume the business is American. The real UK fit is narrow: Western riding schools, bull riding clubs, ranch-style holiday businesses, and traders selling into the country show circuit. If you are one of those, the extension does a lot of work in six letters. If you are not, a .co.uk will serve you better for less.

The registry sets the wholesale price and has priced this one low, in the same band as .futbol on our list. There is no technical difference behind the figure: the DNS resolution, the DNSSEC support and the record types are the same as on any extension costing five times as much. Low price is not a warning sign, but it is not a reason to buy either. Judge the word on whether your customers use it.
