What is a .camp domain?

The .camp domain covers everything from summer camps and scout groups to glamping sites and outdoor adventure providers. It's a short, friendly extension that works just as well for a kids' holiday camp in the Lake District as it does for a wilderness survival school. If your business involves the outdoors and overnight stays, .camp fits.

Why .camp gets bought by boot camps, not campsites

The obvious buyer for a .camp domain is a campsite. The obvious buyer is not the main one. In English, camp drifted away from canvas a long time ago: a training camp, a boot camp, a code camp, a football camp, a half term holiday camp. The extension is short enough to sit on the end of an activity name, and that is where most of the good uses turn out to be.

Binky Moon operates it, it was delegated in December 2013 among the earliest of the new generic extensions, and it carries no restrictions of any kind. Anyone can hold one.

The catch is arithmetic. At around five times a .co.uk each year, it is an expensive address for a seasonal business. A summer camp that trades for six weeks pays for the domain twelve months a year, for as long as it exists. For a village hall, a Scout group or a small charity that maths rarely works, and a .org.uk will reach exactly the same parents. Where it does work is a brand where camp is already part of the trading name and the address stops repeating itself.

The honest answer

Is .camp the right choice for you?

We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.

.camp works well if

  • The word camp is already in your name, so the address stops saying it twice: brightonfootball.camp instead of brightonfootballcamp.co.uk.
  • You run training intensives, boot camps or residential courses and want an address that reads as an event rather than as a company.
  • You launch a new programme each year and want something short enough to fit a wristband, a sign-up form and a parent consent slip.

Look elsewhere if

  • You are seasonal. The renewal arrives whether or not you ran a season, and at roughly five times a .co.uk it is a real annual line item.
  • Your parents search for a local holiday club by town name. A .co.uk carries a UK signal in Google that a generic extension does not.
  • Camp has a second meaning in British English that has nothing to do with tents, so say the whole address out loud before you commit to it.

Running a Scout group, a village hall or a small charity activity? A .org.uk costs a fraction and reads as trustworthy. See .org.uk pricing.

Head to head

.camp vs .club: which should you register?

Both name a group activity, and for a youth or sports organisation the choice comes down to what you are selling. A club is something people join and keep paying for. A camp is something people attend and then go home from. If your revenue is a membership, .club describes it; if your revenue is a booking, .camp does.

On cost the club wins comfortably, at under half the annual price. That gap is worth weighing for a small organisation, because it is the difference repeated every year. Where .camp justifies itself is when the word is already on your posters and in your name, and the address simply catches up with the branding.

Anyone, anywhere. Binky Moon operates .camp as an open extension with no eligibility criteria, no sector check and no documents, so a coding bootcamp, a glamping site and a personal blog all have equal claim to it. Registration is first come, first served. Every domain we sell includes free DNS management, email forwarding and one free 10GB mailbox, so a small camp can run its own address without paying separately for email.

No, and campsites are probably not the main users. Camp in English covers training camps, boot camps, coding camps, sports camps and children's holiday camps, all of which read naturally in front of the dot. Nothing in the registry policy limits the word to accommodation. If your business is a campsite specifically, look at the address as a whole, because a site name plus .camp can read as a repeat rather than a phrase.

Often not. It costs roughly five times a .co.uk every year, and a camp that runs for six weeks still pays for twelve months. If parents find you by searching your town plus holiday club, a .co.uk does more work for less money. The case for .camp gets stronger when the word is part of your trading name, when you market nationally rather than locally, or when you are building a brand you intend to franchise.
