What is a .futbol domain?
Spanish spells it fútbol, and the accent is the one thing an ASCII extension cannot carry, so .futbol is the unaccented form of a word Spanish speakers read instantly. With La Liga, Liga MX, and South American football commanding huge global followings, .futbol gives fan sites, football academies, and sports media outlets a domain rooted in the language their audience speaks.
Who should register .futbol?
Spanish-language football fan sites, Latin American football academies, and sports media targeting Spanish-speaking audiences.
Why choose .futbol?
- Spanish-language football branding from the URL
- Native Spanish football branding
- Niche positioning with a massive audience
- Ideal for La Liga and Latin American football content

The accent .futbol cannot carry
Spanish writes the word with an accent on the u. The extension cannot: it is plain ASCII, so the address a Spanish speaker reads is a fraction off the word they would write by hand. In practice nobody minds, because accents get dropped in web addresses constantly, but it is worth knowing that .futbol is a phonetic match rather than a spelling one. Portuguese speakers write futebol and are not served by it at all, which quietly removes Brazil from the audience.
Dog Beach, LLC operates it, it reached the root zone in February 2014, and it is open to anybody with nothing to prove. It is also among the cheapest names we sell, which is unusual for a category extension and makes it a low-risk thing to try.
The honest use is Spanish-language content: a club, an academy, an agency, a fan site, a Latin American media property. For a British club or a UK-facing football business it is simply the wrong word. We sell .football for a few pounds more and that is the one an English-speaking audience reads without pausing.
Is .futbol the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.futbol works well if
- Your site is written in Spanish for Spanish-speaking supporters, so the extension matches the language the content is already in.
- You run an academy, an agency or a media brand across Spain and Latin America and want one address instead of a country extension per market.
- You want to test a football project cheaply, because this is one of the least expensive category extensions on our list.
Look elsewhere if
- Your audience is British. They read futbol as a foreign spelling of a word they already own, and a good share will type football instead.
- You publish in Portuguese. Brazil and Portugal say futebol, so the extension misses the largest football audience in South America.
- You want the extension to do search work. It is generic, carries no country signal, and an .es or a .co.uk would say far more about where you are.
Writing in English for a British audience? A .football says the same thing with no translation needed. See .football pricing.
.futbol vs .football: which should you register?
Same sport, different reader. .football is the English word and works for anyone from Carlisle to Cape Town; .futbol is the Spanish one minus its accent and works for an audience that thinks in Spanish. Neither is restricted, both come out of the Identity Digital group, and .futbol is the cheaper of the two by a few pounds a year.
Choose by the language of your content, not by price. A Spanish-language academy site on .football looks translated; an English-language club site on .futbol looks like an affectation. If you publish in both, register both and put each language on the extension that matches it.
.futbol domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .futbol domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyFutbol is the Spanish word for football, the game the rest of the world plays with its feet. Spanish spells it with an acute accent on the u, which the domain name system cannot carry in an ASCII extension, so the string is written without it. Turkish uses the same unaccented spelling. Portuguese does not: Brazil and Portugal write futebol, which is why the extension does not reach the Portuguese-speaking world.
Match the extension to the language you publish in. If your content is Spanish and your audience is in Spain or Latin America, .futbol reads natively and costs a little less. If you write in English for any audience, .football is the word your readers use and the one they will type. Both are open, both come from the same registry group, and there is no technical difference between them, so this is purely an audience decision.
For a British club the answer is almost always no. Your supporters say football, they search for football, and they will type football even after reading futbol on a poster. A .co.uk costs less and tells Google you are British, which matters for a club whose entire catchment is one town. The exception is a club running Spanish-language content deliberately, for example for an overseas supporters branch or an academy partnership.
