How breweries actually use a .beer domain
Watch what breweries do with .beer rather than what registrars say about it, and a pattern shows up. Very few run their whole business on it. Plenty use it for the thing that has to be remembered after one glance: a taproom, a festival, a seasonal release, a can with the address printed on the base. Four letters fit where a longer address does not, and a pump clip is exactly the kind of place where somebody sees a domain once and has to recall it later.
Top Level Domain Holdings Limited took it into the root zone in May 2014, and Registry Services, LLC, part of GoDaddy Registry, has run it since September 2021. The registry states that anyone can register regardless of location, industry or country of residence, with no special eligibility requirements and registration worldwide on a first come, first served basis. No brewing connection is checked.
One thing to discount: the registry's own material suggests the extension helps in search. Google's published position is that keywords in an extension do neither good nor harm.
