What is a .space domain?
The .space domain works on two levels. Aerospace companies, space tourism operators, and astronomy enthusiasts use it literally. Coworking spaces, creative studios, and event venues use it as a metaphor for their physical or digital environment. Either way, "space" implies room to grow, explore, and create.
Who should register .space?
Aerospace companies, coworking spaces, creative studios, event venues, and astronomy platforms.
Why choose .space?
- Dual meaning: outer space and workspaces
- Implies room to grow and explore
- Five letters, modern feel
- Strong availability for brand names

Aerospace, coworking and the .space naming trick
Start with the trick, because it is the best reason anyone buys one. .space belongs to a small group of extensions where the label on the left finishes an ordinary English compound. Head, work, maker, co, safe: put any in front and you get a word people already use, the dot vanishing when you say it out loud. That is a different proposition from .online or .site, which sit behind a brand rather than becoming part of it.
The cost of the trick is ambiguity. A satellite components supplier and a shared studio in Hackney both end up on .space, and the extension does not say which one a visitor has landed on. Aerospace is the reading most people reach for first, so a creative venue spends a little of the customer's attention on a correction. Fine when the name on the left does the explaining. A problem when the whole plan was for the extension to say what you do.
Where it came from
.space is the oldest of Radix's four best-known extensions. ICANN signed the registry agreement on 3 April 2014 and the extension entered the root zone on 22 May 2014, the same day as .website. IANA's delegation record shows it started under DotSpace Inc, moved to Radix FZC in August 2021 and moved again to Radix Technologies Inc in February 2024. Those are corporate reorganisations inside one group rather than the extension changing hands, and no registrant had to do anything about any of them. It is also the cheapest of the four at our prices.
Nothing restricts registration. No aerospace test, no document to file, no residency rule; ICANN's contract with Radix is the standard non-sponsored agreement that governs .site and .online too. The catch is that the compound words which make the trick work went early. Anything completing a common phrase is likely held already or priced in a premium tier, and a premium name renews at the premium rate for as long as you hold it. Read the renewal figure on your order, not the first-year one.
Our steer: a coworking venue, a studio or a gallery is a local business, and local businesses live on being found by people searching a town name. Google gives a .co.uk a UK signal and gives .space nothing at all. Buy the .co.uk first, then add the .space if the wordplay is worth paying for twice.
Is .space the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.space works well if
- Your brand completes a real compound. Maker, work, head, co and safe all read as one word in front of .space.
- You work in aerospace, satellites, astronomy or space tourism, and want the sector stated in the address rather than on the page.
- You run an event series, gallery or studio where room to work is the pitch, and the name on the left does the explaining.
- You want the cheapest of these modern general-purpose extensions. At our prices .space undercuts .site, .online and .tech.
Look elsewhere if
- You expect the extension to say what you do. It says two contradictory things, and the aerospace reading gets there first.
- You run a coworking or venue business chasing local search. Google treats .space as generic, so a town-plus-service query gains nothing.
- You will read the address out to customers who are not online much. Dot space needs spelling out more often than dot co dot uk.
- You want the short, obvious word. The compounds that make .space worth having are largely gone or premium, with a premium renewal for life.
Running a venue in a British town? Register the .co.uk first, because local search is where your customers are. See .co.uk pricing.
.space vs .site: which should you register?
Same registry, similar price, opposite intentions. .site is deliberately empty: it names the format, not the subject, and lets the brand do everything. .space carries a meaning, two of them in fact, and that meaning gets applied to you whether you invited it or not.
Pick .space when the word before the dot completes a compound, or when you really are in the space industry and want the address to say so. Pick .site when your name is strong enough to stand alone and you would rather have a suffix that cannot be misread by anybody.
Neither carries weight in Google, neither has an eligibility rule, and both cost several times a .co.uk every year. Weighing them up for a UK trading business, the better question is whether either beats the .co.uk you have not registered yet.

.space domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .space domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyTwo quite different things, which is the whole character of the extension. Aerospace suppliers, satellite firms and space tourism operators use it literally. Coworking venues, studios and galleries use it as a word for a place with room in it. It also works as a domain hack, where the label on the left plus .space reads as one English compound. No rule pushes you either way: registration is open to anyone.
No. There is no sector test, no verification step, no document to supply and no residency requirement. ICANN's contract with Radix is the standard non-sponsored agreement, the same one behind .site and .online, so anybody anywhere can register a .space for any lawful purpose. The only published constraint is Radix's acceptable use and anti-abuse policy, covering phishing, malware and trademark abuse across its whole portfolio.
It reads beautifully and costs you search visibility, so weigh both. A coworking brand plus .space is one of the few places the extension improves a name rather than decorating it. But a venue is a local business, and people find those by typing a town name into Google, where a .co.uk carries a UK signal and .space carries none. Hold the .co.uk as the main address and run the .space alongside it.
No, it is neutral, which is a different thing. Google treats new generic extensions the same as .com and .org, and words after the dot earn nothing either way. The consequence is what it withholds: no UK geographic signal, so a British business chasing local queries starts behind a .co.uk. Content, links and page speed decide the rest, and none of them care which extension you chose.
Choose .space only if the word does something for your name, and otherwise ignore all three and register the .co.uk. All three come from Radix, all three are open to anyone, and none carries a geographic signal or a ranking benefit. .space is the cheapest and most opinionated, .site the shortest and most neutral, .online the most explicit and dearest. If none of that changes your mind, that is your answer: the extension is not where the value sits.
Because the registry reserves certain names as premium and prices them individually. Short words, common compounds and anything with obvious commercial pull sit in that tier. The renewal is what catches people out: a premium name usually renews at the premium price every year you hold it, not just the first, and ICANN's registry agreement permits that where the higher renewal was disclosed at the point of sale. Check the renewal line, not the headline.
