How dotPH runs .ph, and the swap nobody mentions
Here is a registry feature you will not find elsewhere: dotPH lets you swap a .ph domain for a different one, free, once every fortnight. Pick the wrong name, change the trading name, decide the plural reads better, and you are not stuck with the mistake for a year. It covers standard and social media .ph domains alike.
The rest is ordinary but worth reading. dotPH is the registry for .ph and for .com.ph, .net.ph and .org.ph, though not for .gov.ph or .edu.ph, which are administered elsewhere. Anyone over 18 may register, or any legally recognised entity, from anywhere in the world. Names run three to sixty-three characters, letters and digits only, no leading or trailing dash, and nothing made purely of numbers.
Two things to price in. WHOIS privacy is a paid registry add-on rather than a default, so your name and address are published unless you buy it. And the registration agreement is governed by Hong Kong law, with exclusive jurisdiction in the Hong Kong courts, which is an odd footing for a national domain and worth knowing before you build a business on it.
Who is allowed to register .ph?

- dotPH requires an applicant to be an identifiable human individual over the age of 18, or a legally recognised statutory entity such as a corporation, limited liability company, partnership or PLC.
- No Philippine link needed
- Nothing in the qualification policy asks for residence, incorporation or a business address in the Philippines. The registry markets its hosting and email products to holders inside and outside the country alike.
- Naming rules
- Three to sixty-three characters, letters and digits only, no dash at the start or the end, and no name made entirely of numbers. One and two character names are not available, and allocation is first paid, first served.
- Governed by Hong Kong law
- The Term of Domain Name Service and Renewal Policy puts the agreement under the laws of Hong Kong and has the holder consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Hong Kong courts. Give false or misleading details and dotPH may suspend or terminate the name without notice and without a refund.

Is .ph the right choice for you?

- You sell into the Philippines and want the short version of your name, which is far likelier to be free on .ph than on .com.
- You have Filipino operations or staff and want an address that reads local to customers and to Google Philippines.
- Your name ends in those two letters. Words like graph and triumph land neatly across the dot as gra.ph and trium.ph.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost. This is among the most expensive extensions we sell, and the bill repeats every year for the life of the business.
- You need registrant privacy included. On .ph it is a paid registry add-on, unlike the free privacy a UK individual gets on a .uk.
- Your customers are British. A .ph gives Google a Philippine signal, which is the opposite of what a UK shop wants.

.ph vs .com: which should you register?
A .com is the default anywhere and belongs to nobody in particular. A .ph is a country code that says Philippines to a search engine and to a reader, and dotPH prices it like a premium product. The trade is availability and locality against cost and familiarity.
If the Philippine market is the market, .ph is doing work a .com cannot: local ranking, local recognition, and short names that .com ran out of twenty years ago. If the Philippines is one market among several, the .com should be the address on the business card and the .ph should point at it. That way the recurring cost buys a redirect rather than an entire brand.

No, and that is rather the point of it. Google reads .ph as a country-code extension tied to the Philippines, which helps you in Philippine results and does nothing for you in Google UK. If your customers search from Britain, a .co.uk carries the signal you actually want and costs a fraction of this. Use .ph when you are targeting the Philippines specifically, ideally alongside a generic address that carries the rest of your traffic.
