Why .fit reads three ways to British buyers
In British English the word fit carries at least three meanings and only one of them happens in a gym. It means healthy. It means suitable, as in fit for purpose. And it describes the act of fitting something, which is why the word turns up across the trades on kitchens, tyres and windows. A .fit domain inherits all three readings at once. That is an asset when the word in front resolves the ambiguity, and a liability when it does not: bootcamp.fit is unmistakable, northern.fit could be a gym or a shopfitter.
The registry is Registry Services, LLC, trading as GoDaddy Registry, and .fit is named directly in the acceptable use policy that covers its portfolio. Two clauses matter to a fitness business. At registration and at every renewal you warrant that the domain and its use will be consistent with the mission and purpose of the extension and with applicable law, and the registry may cancel, lock, place on hold, transfer or delete a name in its absolute discretion if that warranty turns out to be untrue. The same policy singles out the illegal sale, promotion or distribution of tainted dietary supplements and ingredients validated by regulatory authorities as safety concerns. Ordinary sports nutrition is untouched by that. Anything on a regulator's list is not.
Two quirks catch people out. GoDaddy Registry keeps a list of restricted labels and states plainly that the list will not be published, so a name can be refused without you ever seeing why. - Your business name already carries the meaning, so bootcamp.fit or ninetyday.fit reads as one phrase rather than a name with a category bolted on the end.
- You are naming a programme, a challenge or an app rather than a building. Three letters survive a phone screen, a printed card and a spoken referral.
- You want something shorter than .fitness at a lower annual price and you accept a little ambiguity in exchange for it.
- You coach clients in several countries. The extension carries no country signal, which suits an online business that is not selling to one town.
Look elsewhere if
- Most of your enquiries come from people within driving distance. A .co.uk carries a UK signal in Google that .fit does not, and costs a fraction as much every year.
- Your name does not resolve the ambiguity. Read northern.fit aloud to someone outside the fitness trade and there is a fair chance they hear a fitting service.
- The name you want is premium. On this registry the premium fee applies to renewal as well as registration, so the higher figure repeats for as long as you hold it.

These two sit in the same category and the choice is usually settled on length and price rather than on meaning. A .fit is three characters and costs less each year. A .fitness spells the sector out and leaves nothing to interpretation.
They are not run by the same company, which is easy to miss because the price lists look alike.
