What you are actually buying with a .eu.com
A .eu.com is not a top level domain and never has been. eu.com is one ordinary .com registration, held by a registry that sells names beneath it, which is why the facts panel on this page shows Verisign and 1985. Those belong to .com, the zone your name will sit inside.
Who runs it has changed, and the change is not widely reported. The current registry policies name 8 Inc as the operator, with CentralNic contracted to provide the technical registry services underneath, and dispute notices going to an address at gen.xyz. Those policies are governed by the law of the State of Nevada and carry a binding individual arbitration clause with a class action waiver, subject to an opt out. For an extension sold on European identity, that is worth reading before you order rather than after.
The upside is real and simple. There is no eligibility test at all, so the UK businesses that lost .eu eligibility when the transition period ended on 31 December 2020 can hold a .eu.com without an EU entity or a qualifying citizenship. Names run from one to sixty three characters and register for one to ten years. You get the look of a European address. You do not get .eu.

A .eu.com is a commercial product from a private registry, open to anyone on earth, that borrows the letters.

Pick .eu.com when you do not qualify and the European look still matters commercially.
